When the Ducks announced their 2004 football signees in early February of that year, it was viewed as the best class in school history.

There were all-Americans all over the list, players one could easily imagine as starters early in their careers. Players like running back Terrell Jackson, offensive lineman Aaron Klovas, a'nd JC defensive end Micah Howeth.

And there, lower on the alphabetical list, was Michael Speed.

Wait ... Michael Speed? The Internet services that follow recruiting so diligently hadn't unearthed this sleeper, apparently. Nobody had heard of the 224-pound defensive end. And wait, a 224-pound defensive lineman?

Three years later, nine of the signees announced that day are set to start...
