I've always felt like a traitor to my gender, as least as far as my taste in books is concerned. The problem is that ever since I was a kid, I've been boy crazy. Not just in the romantic sense, but also in the cat-that-thinks-it's-a-dog sense.

My favorite novel genre is the male coming-of-age story. While other girls were experiencing powerful recognition in stories about girls coming to terms with their womanhood, I was busy identifying with the boys and their stories. Sociologists sometimes refer to this phenomenon as false consciousness.
