One hundred and fifty years ago, a group of 60 delegates representing the Oregon Territory's 18 counties met in Salem to draft a constitution. Oregon voters and the U.S. Congress later ratified the document, and with the signature of President James Buchanan, Oregon became the nation's 33rd state on Feb. 14, 1859.

The 60 delegates who would craft the Oregon Constitution didn't just come out of nowhere to take their seats at the 1857 convention in Salem.
