Euthanasia hard to find for pet
I have a 19-year-old toy poodle who is blind and can't walk any more.
I went to a veterinarian's office close to me to arrange to have her put down. I was turned down because my dog wasn't a patient.
My dog is having pain, and I guess I'm the only one who cares. Is there a vet out there who can help me? I can't strangle her.
I love her, but Misty isn't happy any more. She's incontinent and that bothers her.
Why is it that Oregon has euthanasia for humans but not for pets?

Debate needs less name-calling
Cal Crowe (letters, Aug. 22) misunderstands a quote by Barack Obama, who is concerned about the level of force used to fight the war in Iraq.
Fortunately, our military commanders in Iraq understand Obama's point well. The current Field Manual on Counterinsurgency, written by Gen. David Petraeus with advice from human rights groups, emphasizes using the minimal amount of force necessary to conduct the war while sparing civilian lives.
It is a point worth debating to ask if, for political reasons, we do not have sufficient troops necessary to fully implement the field manual's strategy. Unfortunately, Crowe does not debate this point.
