Public health officials warned consumers Thursday to check their freezers for a brand of extra-lean ground beef connected to at least eight cases of E. coli O157 in Oregon and Washington.

The beef in question was sold under the Northwest Finest brand in QFC, Safeway and Fred Meyer stores in Oregon, Washington, Alaska and Idaho in late July and early August, health officials said. The meat was ground by Interstate Meat Distributors Inc. in Clackamas.

Any meat that matches the brand name and sell-by date in question should be thrown out or returned to the store for a refund, said Dr....
