I recall that 40 years ago when I was first invited to teach the introductory physical geography and physiographic hydrology courses at UBC (geomorphology was taught in geology at that time and woe betide any geographer who wished to propose a geomorphology course in geography), I struggled to acquire as many local (Canadian) examples as possible. I was fortunate in being able to turn to senior colleagues, such as John Stager, Ross Mackay and Bill Mathews, for assistance from their life-time experience in Canada.
