Cleveland -- Laparoscopic cryoablation can be used to treat cystic renal tumors in highly selected patients, according to the results of a small series from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.

Seven patients (mean age, 71 years) presented with cystic lesions between January 2005 and March 2006, and all were treated successfully with laparoscopic cryoablation, researchers reported at the World Congress of Endourology here. Mean operative time in the series was 117.1 minutes; mean estimated blood loss was 78.5 cc.
