Anglo American subsidiary, Kumba Iron Ore, has served legal papers on Senegal's state-owned development company Miferso for the possible loss to friendly rival, Arcelor Mittal of India, of the 750m-ton iron ore project at Faleme in central Senegal.
Kumba, one of the world's top five iron ore producers, has been ordered by Miferso to withdraw from the Faleme area despite an agreement signed between Senegal and the South African company in 2004. The agreement allowed Kumba and Miferso jointly to explore Faleme's export potential.
