Katja Host: The Lonely Crowd

TATIANA MELLEMA For Oslo-based artist Katja Host, the subtleties of a glance or gesture tell all. Working in photography and video, Host captures moments of human interactions, revealing that even the most banal behaviours are charged with meaning. The artist's works force the audience into the role of peeping Tom, as the private realities of hundreds of people navigating their lives through the social world are opened up for investigation. However, Host's works are more then just voyeuristic snapshots; they are mirrors of the social, allowing viewers to reflect on their own daily interactions. This spring, Articule hosted the first solo exhibition of Host's work outside Norway. The Lonely Crowd shares its name...
