Let Iraqis vote on withdrawal

Our president's interpretation of the Iraq dilemma barely has a pulse.

He wants to bring democracy to Iraq and claims that keeping American troops there is a means to accomplish that end. Unilaterally withdrawing them will give the appearance on the world stage that the United States has cut and run. I can offer a simple solution to this enigma.

We can sponsor a referendum in Iraq simply to ask the Iraqis if they would like to see our troops withdrawn. If the majority of their citizens vote in favor of withdrawal, then we can withdraw our forces honorably and redirect our resources to fight terrorism (al-Qaeda) elsewhere. If the majority of Iraqis vote against our withdrawal, then the president would have a legitimate mandate to stay and a basis for asking the Iraqi people to assist more actively in establishing peace and stability in their country.
