The oldest team in the Northwest League is also the best team.

Salem-Keizer continued to prove that with its second straight win over Eugene, a 6-2 victory in front of 4,112 Sunday evening at Civic Stadium.

The Volcanoes are 32-8, an .800 winning percentage that is on pace to surpass last season, when Salem-Keizer finished 55-21 to post the best record in all of professional baseball and went on to win the league title.

"I think the final score is Varsity 2, Freshmen 1," Eugene manager Greg Riddoch said after the Volcanoes took two of three games from the Ems.

"I think it proves one thing, that we can compete with them but we can't make mistakes because they are older, experienced and they don't make mistakes to beat themselves.

"Every other team in the league is similar except for them, and when you make mistakes against them, it shows up like a wart."
