'We the people' elected Bush
As I write these words there are 547 days remaining in President George Bush's term of office.
Unless he is impeached or dies unexpectedly, he will be commander in chief until that time. The armed forces will obey and carry out his surreal vision of victory until then. The ability of Congress to oversee the divinely inspired policies of this president are, at best, pathetic.
For this state of affairs, we should be grateful. Bush will ask for and, I hope, receive all the rope he needs. I hope that the Senate continues to stymie all efforts to redirect America's focus towards the religious terrorists safely hidden away in Pakistan or scattered around the world. I hope that our brave troops, who in 2004 favored their current commander in chief by a margin of 4 to 1, will realize that a decorated combat veteran might have had their best interests at heart somewhat more than a flight-suit poser who never fired a shot while shaking in his boots.
I hope that by November 2008, it should be clear enough to all voters that this "war on terror" was not lost because of liberal columnists but because of the overconfidence, cruelty, greed, ignorance, indifference, gullibility and stupidity of, yes, the American people.
That's right. "We the people" voted for George Bush and "we the people" should accept responsibility for our failure as citizens of this modern world.
