Schools should teach capitalism

My daughter, along with other students, respectfully walked out of a Churchill High School human rights seminar when our president and his administration were mocked and called terrorists and evil capitalists on a day set aside to honor Dr. Martin Luther King. Churchill teachers and administrators call this diversity? Is anyone paying attention? Is it any wonder that this school-endorsed far-left agenda helps to defeat measures like 28 and 30?

I challenge Churchill and our public schools to set aside one day a year for the dreaded capitalists to address our students. The seminars would feature black, Hispanic, Native American and white men and women, conservative and liberal, who are living King's dream everyday.

Diversity and choice are the hallmarks of American capitalism and business. How and why our economy works is a mystery to many of our students. It is simply not being taught in our public schools. Capitalism is instead blamed for social and environmental problems. Ironically, entrepreneurs and business innovators worldwide are solving these very problems.

Capitalism is the engine that provides people around the world the opportunity to enjoy greater health, wealth and choice. If our public schools were truly interested in promoting diversity, as opposed to a far-left agenda, they would show some respect and appreciation for the very economic system that fuels the public school budget.
