Presbyterian Healthcare System

As a leading health care organization, Presbyterian Healthcare System continues to expand and advance its capabilities in a range of clinical areas and geographic locations that encompass much of North and East Texas with hospitals in Dallas, Piano, Allen, Kaufman, and Winnsboro.

Even as Presbyterian Healthcare System continues to grow with the needs of the communities it serves, a common thread binds its efforts: an unwavering focus to deliver on its motto, "It's All in the Way We Treat You."

At each of Presbyterian's hospitals, "It's All in the Way We Treat You" boils down to two primary areas of focus: clinical excellence and compassionate care for patients and their families.

Significant investments in advanced technology and diagnostic tools are continually made in specialty areas ranging from cardiovascular health and neurology to digestive health, orthopedics, and oncology, continually expanding options for patients with complicated cases at Presbyterian hospitals. Physicians from across the nation train at the Presbyterian Institute for Minimally Invasive Technology, which is pioneering new methods of delivering medicine. As part of the system's dedication to advancing the science of medicine, the Presbyterian hospitals of Dallas and Plano serve as study sites for clinical trials and research.

As mainstays in the communities they serve, the Presbyterian hospitals continue to grow to meet the needs of their patients. The hospitals' focus on the literal meaning of caring remains paramount, resulting in consistently high patient satisfaction scores. At Presbyterian Healthcare System, it really is all in the way we treat you.

When Texas Children's was dedicated in 1954 in Houston, it had three stories and 106 beds. Polio was a major health threat, and the nearest children's hospital was two days away by train.

Today, Texas Children's 715 licensed beds and 1.8 million annual patient visits make it the nation's largest freestanding pediatric hospital. A medical staff of more than 1,625 board-certified, pediatric primary-care physicians, subspecialists, surgical subspecialists, and dentists is joined by a highly skilled nursing and support staff of more than 6,000.

It's not just size that sets the hospital apart. Child magazine named Texas Children's the No. 4 children's hospital in the nation, and US. News and World Report ranks it No. 5. The hospital is renowned for expertise and breakthroughs in the treatment of cancer, premature infants, cardiogenic disorders, diabetes, asthma, HIV/AIDS, and attention-related disorders.

Texas Children's is the primary pediatric teaching hospital for Baylor College of Medicine, one of time nation's top medical schools. The hospital, in conjunction with Baylor, participates in approximately 400 research projects annually and receives more research funding than any other pediatric hospital.

To kick off its birthday year, the hospital will celebrate with a January gala. Additional celebrations are planned for 2004.

In addition to the hospital, Texas Children's Hospital Integrated Delivery System includes Texas Children's Pediatric Associates (TCPA), a network of more than 140 primary-care pediatricians in 44 practices in the Houston area, six Texas Children's Health Centers[R], and Texas Children's Health Plan, the nation's first HMO designed for children.
