What is 'ethical responsibility'?
In his veto of the stem cell bill, President Bush called for "ethically responsible" research.
How refreshing! I wonder, what would an "ethically responsible" foreign policy look like? I wonder, just when did "pre-emptive war" become "ethically responsible"?
I wonder, does "ethical responsibility" have any bearing on our environmental policies? I wonder, is "just say no" an "ethically responsible" response to the drug epidemic, or "abstinence only" an "ethically responsible" sex education policy?
I wonder, how do we weigh "ethical responsibility" when deciding what taxes to cut for the rich and what programs to cut for the poor? I wonder, what does "ethical responsibility" mean in the hiring and firing of federal prosecutors or, for that matter, the attorney general?
Oh, and I wonder, just what does "ethical responsibility" say to all those who suffer from Parkinson's, diabetes and other diseases for which stem cell research offers great promise?
Just wondering.

A little research would have uncovered the fact that the native people replaced by the white immigrants in the 1840s and beyond called this valley the Valley of Death, because of all the pollens and molds from grasses, trees and plants.
Not to mention...
