PORTLAND - Some 5,700 people showed up to the Rose Garden on Thursday to hear news most all of them figured was coming.

Rip City is so primed these days, even the inevitable was greeted with fanfare. That's how desperate Trail Blazers fans are to celebrate their Portland team again.

A reversal of fortunes for the Trail Blazers that began with the 2006 NBA draft, and picked up a major boost when the franchise won this year's lottery, neared completion when Portland did the expected and drafted 7-foot Ohio State freshman Greg Oden with the first overall pick Thursday.
