Speed kills - a lesson learned the hard way for Boise on Thursday at Civic Stadium.

Eugene's top two batters, Luis Durango and Ray Stokes, scored a combined five runs on five hits, with four RBIs and three stolen bases to lead the Emeralds (7-3) to a 9-2 victory against the Hawks (1-9) in front of a crowd of 2,019.

"It's hard to exchange sp

eed," said Eugene manager Greg Riddoch, who noted that Durango and Stokes are the two quickest players on the roster.

"There is nothing to substitute for speed. You can put pressure on that defense all the time when those two guys are up there."
