Though it just completed its first performance season, the Mississippi State University Riley Center in downtown Meridian has already proven itself to be a "new money-generator." While developers of the performing arts/education/conferencing center envisioned the facility drawing visitors from well beyond Meridian, they have been pleasantly surprised at just how quickly that has happened.
According to Penny Kemp, the center's marketing director, first season performances had already drawn approximately 30,000 visitors as of May 8. These tourists hailed from more than half of the counties in Mississippi, and as far away as California, Michigan, Indiana and even Canada.
