A strong fiscal third-quarter report from Monsanto Co. lifted shares of other agricultural product makers Thursday 2007-06-28.

Monsanto, which produces genetically altered seeds and herbicide, said quarterly earnings jumped 71 percent on strong demand. Sales and profit results beat analyst estimates.

"The 2007 season is shaping up to be an extraordinary year for agriculture," Monsanto President and Chief Executive Hugh Grant said.
