Rite Aid Corp., the nation's third-largest drugstore chain, said Thursday 2007-06-28 its profit soared in the first quarter as sales rose in both the pharmacy and front-end sections of the stores.

For the quarter ended June 2, net income after preferred stock dividends climbed to $19.5 million, or 4 cents per share, from $3.2 million, or 1 cent per share in the prior-year quarter.

Revenue rose 3 percent to $4.46 billion from $4.34 billion...
