General Motors and Chevron were lifted by analyst upgrades Monday 2007-06-25, and Freedom Acquisition Holdings jumped on merger news. Meanwhile, shares of Avis Budget Group and other rental-car agencies fell on a downgrade.

On the whole, stocks were lower after losing earlier gains. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 13.30 points at 13346.90, while the technology-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index fell 12.60 to 2576.40.
