In the first Louisiana jury decision to emerge from the wreckage of Hurricane Katrina--and the ensuing battle between homeowners and insurance companies--a federal jury has awarded over $2.8 million to a Slidell man who lost his home and sued Allstate Insurance Co. for breach of contract. The April verdict included a penalty for All-state's slow payment to the homeowner. (Weiss v. Allstate, No. 06-3774 (E.D. La. Apr. 16, 2007).)
