MSU gets $26M pledge for new art museum from Broads

Michigan State University on Friday announced a $26 million gift from Eli and Edythe Broad, the largest individual cash gift in the university's history.

About $18.5 million of the gift will fund construction of a new modern and contemporary art museum named for the couple on MSU's East Lansing campus.

An additional $7.5 million will fund art acquisitions and endowments for exhibitions and operations there.

The total project is expected to cost $30 million, and groundbreaking is expected in the fall of 2008, MSU said in a release.
