Judge dismisses suit filed by Julian's small businesses; town's building owners, proprietors argue lawyer made unfair claims for money.

A federal judge has dismissed a suit filed by a handful of Julian business owners fighting off a San Diego attorney known for filing federal lawsuits involving compliance issues with the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.

The ADA is a wide-ranging civil rights law that prohibits discrimination based on disability, including equal access to places. It took effect in 1992.

The lawsuit was filed earlier this year in U.S. District Court, Southern District of California in San Diego against Theodore A. Pinnock for unfair monetary claims following his visit to the small tourist town in November 2005.

A few days after his visit, Pinnock filed complaints against 67 businesses, including retail shops and restaurants, for not being accessible to people with disabilities.
