Contract customers wage fight over steel surcharges.

PITTSBURGH -- North American steel mills are seeing mixed results in their efforts to secure raw material surcharges from their customers.

Most industry observers said the mills were getting the full surcharges in spot market buys but were having more difficulty obtaining the surcharges from contract customers. Only Nucor Corp., Charlotte, N.C., claimed to be receiving all surcharges from all customers, a contention some observers disputed.
