Some 22 years ago, I was having a very bad day. I can't remember now what the problem was--something to do with homework--but it was devastating. I was crying by my locker when Mrs. Baxter approached. She listened to me cry for a moment, then said to me, "Sheri, your problem is that you are a perfectionist."

Through a sniffling nose I whined, "But how can I be a perfectionist when nothing is ever perfect?!" What a perfect response--the mantra of every perfectionist.

That brief conversation never left me. Unfortunately, neither did my perfectionist tendencies. They stopped me at every turn. I hate to say it, but I struggled for years...
