Before Toyota decided to build an automotive assembly plant near Tupelo, the Northeast Mississippi city was already, one of the state's most interesting and progressive cities. The National Civic League named it an "All America Community" in 1967, 1989 and again in 1999. Not many cities have that kind of sustaining power.

It's little wonder visitors want to move here. Toyota included. The Southern city not only offers a generous dose of hospitality, but also a special spirit. The locals are serious, but they also love to laugh and their attitude is contagious. That's one reason why Tupelo continues to grow its tourism business, year after year.

In 2006, tourism revenues increased 4% over the previous year, boosted by the 500 motor coaches...
