Just before Hurricane Katrina ravaged the state August 29, 2005, the Mississippi Tourism Association (MTA) was weathering internal storms.

Anne Coggins, meetings and conventions manager for the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau, had just begun serving a one-year term as president of MTA when the private statewide association's executive director stepped down and the management company under contract decided to close its doors.
