Doug Knighton likes to finish what he starts.

As a college student at Oregon State University in 1999, Knighton helped craft the business plan for the Lane County Regional Sports Center in Springfield. He never had the chance to see the ground-breaking of the sports center and see it grow into a truly regional facility, but now he is back to finish the job.

Knighton, 34, was named the new director of the sports center on May 1, after the departure of Mike Chastain. Chastain left the job to return to Bend, sports center employees say.
