The pathogens that we may be exposed to at a birth are Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C and HIV. While it is known that these are blood borne pathogens, what is less known is that they can be isolated in other bodily fluids. The fluids to which we may be exposed during a labor and birth are blood, amniotic fluid, urine, stool, vomit, saliva and breastmilk. There are two other bodily fluids that have not been shown to carry pathogens, these being tears and sweat.
