Article Excerpt After delays primarily related to the Sept. 11, 2001. terrorist attacks on the U.S., the Jackson International Airport (JIA) is finally getting a much-needed facelift.
Bids for the $10-million terminal renovation project are expected later this month, and the contract will be awarded in February. The renovation project includes new restrooms, elevators, escalators, lighting, energy management upgrades, landscaping and a new public address system. It also includes a public community room, public art display and flight information display systems.
JIA is also spending $1 million to upgrade its security system to accommodate the new state-of-the-art explosive detection systems for Transportation Security Administration (TSA), including five new machines. TSA is, of course, now responsible for the screening of passengers and baggage....
