Mexico is poised to overtake Canada this year as the largest supplier to the U.S. auto industry, according to Mexico's national parts association.
"We believe we will become the U.S.'s main supplier in 2007,'' said Alejandro Farias, economic studies manager of the Industria Nacional de Autopartes, or INA, at an auto industry conference herethis spring.
Canada's suppliers exported $14.97 billion in parts to the United States in 2006, followed by Mexico ($14.83 billion), Japan ($10.72 billion) and China ($8.56 billion), according to INA and the U.S. Department of Commerce.
