BEFORE THE FIRST WALL even went up, the new building at Keim Lumber in Charm, Ohio, attracted a lot of attention. Construction workers were blasting a hole 30-feet deep on a hill next to the existing lumber store.

That crater in the ground was big enough to accommodate a game of baseball for the employees when it was finished. Today, it's a basement topped by three floors--Owner Bill Keim's 256,000-square-foot expansion to his lumber business. Besides being a building big enough to accommodate the growth his business has witnessed over the years, Keim also hopes to attract the attention of tourists traveling through eastern Ohio's Amish country.
