CORVALLIS - Oregon State ended spring practices Saturday with the Black team beating the White, 20-14, and that narrow margin probably reflects the advantage winning quarterback Sean Canfield has over Lyle Moevao, his chief competition for the starting position next season.

`My performance was pretty good, for the most part,' Canfield said, on the mark there as much as he was in completing 17-of-30 passes Saturday at Reser Stadium.

Canfield's only touchdown pass was mostly courtesy of Clinton Polk's legs, as a shovel pass in the backfield ended up going 70 yards for the game's first score. Canfield also threw the lone interception of the day, to reserve safety Greg Laybourn, but when it came down to his team needing to protect its narrow lead in the final minutes, he was on target for a pair of first downs to run out the clock...
