Lane County officials answer questions about the income tax:

Question: The county is expecting a potential loss of $22 million annually in federal aid, yet the tax seeks to raise $32 million annually. Why?

Answer: About $22 million of the income tax revenue would cover the anticipated loss in federal aid; of the remainder, $4.8 million would cover expenses in other county operations; $3.3 million would be used to establish a public-safety reserve; and $2.2 million would be spent collecting and administering the tax.
