EDITOR'S NOTE: This is the seventh in a series of stories about programs funded by United Way of Lane County to be published during the agency's annual fund-raising campaign.

Tom Blake has some personal motivation to chip in a couple times a month at the First Place Family Center in Eugene.

Blake, 53, was a lifelong drywall installer when the years of lifting and straining caught up with him a couple of years ago. His neck and back gave out, leaving him unable to work and support his family.
