Total stainless steel imports increased by 23 percent in 2006, according to yearend figures from the Specialty Steel Industry of North America, Washington, D.C.U.S. consumption totaled 2,591,577 tons, a 15 percent increase from 2005.

Import penetration was 32 percent, up 2 percent from 2005.
