Recall effort is malicious

The politically insane effort to recall Lane County Commissioner Bobby Green should be rejected by fair-minded citizens. Recalls are for heinous criminality, not disagreements over issues. The commissioners honored some folks' concerns by placing the income tax on the May 15 ballot; yet a tiny group of single-issue partisans seeks to bring county government to its knees via hateful recall efforts against Green and colleagues Bill Dwyer and Faye Stewart.

Aside from the facts that recall ringleader Ben Pooler is a recent arrival from Nevada and that all three petitioners of the We Said No committee are Republican employees of Morse Bros. up in Harrisburg, the huge infusion of campaign cash from Portland-based Don McIntyre should raise alarms.

An April 26 Register-Guard ad maliciously claims: "Bobby Green has been and continues to be against the citizens of this county" and that "waiting until the next election ... could be disastrous for the county."

Give me a break!

As a Lane County Budget Committee member and longtime county observer, I've watched Green show personal courage and character in the eye of a storm, just like he did decades ago as a gutsy University of Oregon football player in Autzen Stadium! As president of the Association of Oregon Counties or champion for county youth services, Green is loyal to his North Eugene district and county.

Let's give "thumbs down" to folks who give fairness the third finger.
