ST. LOUIS - Cardinals manager Tony La Russa put it succinctly.

"This is brutal," La Russa told a large media gathering Sunday as he talked about the death of Cardinals relief pitcher Josh Hancock.

The 29-year-old Hancock, who pitched against the Cubs on Saturday, was killed early Sunday morning when his 2007 Ford Explorer struck the rear of a flat-bed tow truck in the left lane of Interstate 64, also known as Highway 40, in St. Louis.
