In general, the authors achieve these goals and the book would be a useful reference text for an advanced interdisciplinary undergraduate course. No attempt is made to avoid mathematics, however, and there's no shortage of supporting formulae and technical diagrams, while knowledge of dimensional analysis is assumed. A brief mathematical refresher, plus detailed derivations and advanced explanations, are appendicized.
