The Dixie Group takes its business to the carpet. Once a traditional textile manufacturer, the company now makes high-end carpet and rugs, as well as yarns (used to manufacture carpets). Dixie sells residential and commercial broadloom carpets to retail outlets and other customers primarily through its Dixie Home, Masland Carpets, and Fabrica International brands. The Dixie Home unit sells tufted broadloom carpets to home centers, selected retailers, and distributors. In 2003 the company sold about half its operations (including the bulk of its yarn manufacturing mills) to Shaw Industries. Chairman and CEO Daniel Frierson and other family members control the company's voting stock.

Shares were down 6% as quarterly earnings fall.
