International Securities Exchange Inc., the largest U.S. equity options market, said on Wednesday quarterly profit rose 34 percent, helped by volatile financial markets that boosted options trading.

Still, shares tumbled about 4 percent as earnings missed Wall Street estimates and the New York-based exchange lost market share to competitors.

First-quarter net income rose to $16.7 million, or 42 cents per share, from $12.4 million or 32 cents a share a year earlier, short of the average analysts' forecast of 45 cents per share, according to Reuters Estimates.
