PROJECT OVERVIEW:
The local INDO RAMA SYNTHETICS LTD. currently operates a polyester manufacturing plant with an installed production capacity of 300,000 tons per year (t/y) at Butibori, India. However according to O.P. Lohia, INDO RAMA Managing Director, his company is now planning to double production output at that site.
In so doing the Indian company recently concluded an alliance with ZIMMER AG of Germany to implement an upgrade project. The planned expansion aims at doubling the production capacity in Butibori from 800 tons per day (t/d) to 16,000 t/d for both polyester staple fire (PSF) and partially oriented yarn (POY) by September 2005. As a result, production output is expected to increase to 60,000 t/y. The facility will thus become the largest single location plant in the country and one of the largest in the world.
The cost to complete the upgrade has been pegged at $200,000,000. Of this amount, $100,000,000 will reportedly come from INDO RAMA's internal cash flow while the remainder will be financed by bankers including those from Germany .
INDO RAMA employs a total workforce of approximately 6,000 engaged in the manufacture of polyester.
ZIMMER, a subsidiary of MG ENGINEERING that is part of MG TECHNOLOGIES AG, employs a total staff of about 400 involved in the development of technology in the plastics and synthetic fibers fields. The company is also active in the design, construction and commissioning of plants.
