I learned my lesson long ago with child No. 1: a change in scenery does not qualify as a basis for a vacation. You may want to nap, read a book, go to a great restaurant and generally go with the flow, but you darn well better have some plans to DO something if you have kids in tow.

Like everyone else, however, I can't seem to find the time to shampoo, rinse and shampoo again (like it says on the bottle), let alone research, book and schedule action-packed or meaningful activities for our next getaway. Perhaps that's why private tours and custom itineraries for families are the hot elements in travel this year.
