Ms. Echavarria received a master's in public health from Loma Linda University. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and is an avid volunteer and mentor in her community, serving in various leadership roles such as cochair of the American Lung Association of the Northwest and past president and board member of the Alaska Health Fair, Inc. She serves on the board of the Institute for Diversity in Health Management. In 2001, Ms. Echavarria received the Alaska Health Education Consortium's Barbara Berger Award for excellence in health education and health promotion.
