Boxes spread across the floor of his corner office in the Casanova Center might have been filled faster except for a steady schedule of farewells this past week for Bill Moos.

One day it was goodbye from the Oregon Club. Another day, the Daisy Ducks had a special presentation. On Wednesday, the staff of the UO department of athletics gathered for one last time with the director, who as of Saturday completes his tenure, which began July 1, 1995.

`The realization that it's just about over is emotional,' Moos said. `We've lived here in Eugene longer than anywhere. Three of my children will have graduated from high school here. My oldest daughter was married here. My youngest son was born here.

`This has been home for us. It'll be tough to close the curtain on this time in our life, but at the same time, we're excited about our future.'

Moos announced his intent to retire in November, with a not-so-subtle push from the UO administration that included a $2 million payout over the next 10 years. In return, Moos...
