The Larkin Royals ran into a brick wall Friday, losing both games of their doubleheader to Harlem 5-0 and 2-1 in Elgin.

That brick wall was Huskies' pitcher Maddie Butterfield who tallied 25 strikeouts in 13 scoreless innings.

"When you're playing a team that went to state last year with (Butterfield), you need all your resources here and we ran into a one-man show. I call them the Harlem Butterfields," said Larkin coach Larry Hight.

In Game 1, Harlem jumped ahead of the Royals early, scoring 2 runs in the first inning and another 3 runs in the third. Royals pitcher Sarah McCleary had to leave the game after she was struck by a line drive on her throwing hand in the second inning.

"Two of our pitchers have been hit," Hight said. "On Wednesday (Melissa Idstein) got hit in the head and was not ready to pitch, and then (McCleary) got hit in the hand."
