Reports emanating from Mexico seem to take an almost jocular attitude toward a serious increase in the price of tortillas. Tortillas are one of the country's most important foods, and according to a February 9, 2007 story in the Dallas Morning News (Dallas) the price of tortillas "nearly doubled to 10 pesos (92 cents) in some communities over the course of a year." The price is per kilo, or 2.2 pounds.
