FLOWOOD -- With one statement, a schoolteacher turned around Scherrie Prince's life.

"In junior high school, around the time my mother was placed in a nursing home, my grades began to fall and I began to act out," admitted Prince. "I started hanging out with a questionable crowd of people. Angie Newsome, a teacher at Durant High School, took me aside and talked to me. She told me that I mattered and I had the ability to do more. It was during that time that I began to refocus my energy toward positive things.
