MCCOMB -- Charlie Lewis almost derailed his banking career--before it started.

Lewis was mulling his next move--perhaps an accounting job?--after earning a business administration degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1993. When an employment service called his parents' house and asked if he would be interested in an account services position at a small community bank in McComb, Lewis told them "I didn't think banking was my thing."
